The canal is essentially rural, crossing Cannock Chase and following the River Stour down to the Severn. It was built early on in the ‘Canal Age’ and became well supplied with canalside pubs providing stabling for the horses and beer and companionship for the boat people. Plus Penkridge and Stourport have a wide selection of traditional pubs within an easy walk.
