  • Many specialist accessible boats are equipped with wheelchair-friendly gangways, while some companies provide adapted lifts and ramps.
  • Some boats are equipped with beds that are suitable for wheelchair users, while some companies provide specialised chairs and beds that can be used in the cabin. For those who need extra carers, some companies provide an extra cabin or a separate area for carers to sleep in.
  • For those who require assistance with toileting, UK wheelchair toilets are available on many canal boats, enabling those with restricted mobility to enjoy the same level of comfort as their able-bodied companions.
  • When it comes to enjoying the sights and sounds of the UK’s canals, there are accessible routes that are suitable for those with restricted abilities. For example, some companies provide specialised tours for those with visual impairments, enabling them to enjoy the sights and sounds of the canals in a safe and accessible way. Each of these Accessible Boat providers will be able to advise on suitable routes in their own locations.
