The Grand Union Canal is the longest canal in Britain, stretching 137 miles from London to Birmingham. This particular map displays the western portion of the canal, covering the area from Birmingham to Milton Keynes. The route is primarily rural and peaceful, passing through Warwickshire and Northamptonshire, and includes the Northampton Arm and the start of the Leicester Line. The journey begins in Birmingham’s centre and leads through the suburbs towards historic Warwick and the impressive Georgian architecture of Royal Leamington Spa. The route then continues through Braunston, Weedon Bec, Blisworth, and Stoke Bruerne, where visitors can explore the canal museum, before finally arriving in Milton Keynes. While passing through the city, much of the canal is obscured by the surrounding parklands.
