It features a 109-mile circuit with 94 locks that passes through Staffordshire, West Midlands, Shropshire, and Cheshire, making it a popular choice among boaters for hire. The guidebook also provides comprehensive coverage of the Trent & Mersey Canal, which spans 92 miles from Preston Brook near Runcorn to Shardlow near Derby.
In addition to the Trent & Mersey Canal, the guidebook also includes information on two other waterways with distinct characteristics. The Caldon Canal, for example, runs from the Potteries up into the Staffordshire Moorlands, while the Weaver Navigation is a former inland shipping route that centres around the legendary Anderton Lift, one of the Seven Wonders of the Waterways.
