This unique book is a pictorial record of half of these boats, showing them as they are today or were within the last few years. Some are in pristine restored condition, while others have been converted for holidays or to live on. A few are still working, and some may need a little TLC. David Williams, who grew up by the Shropshire Union Canal in Cheshire, took almost all the superb photographs over five years of travel around the country. Each photograph is accompanied by brief notes on the boat by Peter Silvester, who has been canal boating for almost fifty years, after starting with skiffing, punting, and rowing on the Thames.

Historic Working Narrow Boats Today 1
This book contains over 590 colourful photographs of more than 460 boats. It showcases the canals built around 1800 with locks measuring just over 7 feet wide, used by “narrow boats” that were 70 feet long and 7 feet wide. While it’s impossible to know how many narrow boats were built over the 200 years until about 1962, close to 1000 still exist today.
