“Walking on Water” is set on the brink of the Millennium, and the author’s observations of England’s industrial waterways at a leisurely pace, never exceeding four mph (well, seldom). The unique personalities they encounter along the way offer a humorous and refreshingly honest snapshot of their homeland.
Walking on Water
The author, Nick Corble, was inspired by fond memories of a canal holiday from his youth and a desire to rediscover life’s values. So he impulsively purchased a worn-down canal boat named Florrie and embarked on a summer-long journey down the canal system of England with the help of various crews of all ages. The trip became known as the ‘Grand Trek South’, and the author enthusiastically shares their eventful journey’s many highlights – and a few low points.
