Much older and in ruins compared to what I expected. In it’s heyday was a huge complex and strategically important.
We got a bit lost in the gardens as pathways misleading and dead ends.

Not much remains but the grounds are very pretty and it’s always nice to have something as historic as a ruined castle in your riverside town.
Plenty to do for the children and plenty of benches to sit and watch them enjoy themselves.
Free to enter via a small doorway and limited parking spaces are directly outside the grounds.

A beautiful park and castle ruins. We caught the bus from Oxford to Wallingford. There is more than one entrance to the castle. We first went down Castle Lane, which was flooded, so we walked back to Castle Street. Because of the amount of rain we had, it was a little muddy, but otherwise, it was a beautiful place to visit, plus it’s free. We didn’t go to the Meadows to see the other ruins

It is a fabulous place to walk and enjoy a relatively flat terrain. A location of historical significance with helpful signs that explain the story behind the Castle. Great location for decent pubs and restaurants nearby and a very friendly local atmosphere.

A grassy space with some castle ruins dotted about. There’s not a great deal to see and the castle is mostly gone but it’s a pleasant enough space for a picnic or to explore with the kids. Access is from the Thames path through the castle meadows.
