Canal Pub on the Trent and Mersey Canal

Guide To Rising Sun

Located in the heart of Willington village at 1 The Green, The Rising Sun has a fascinating history. Originally known as the Rising Sun Cottages, these three separate houses were converted into a pub in 1940.

Owned by Marston’s, this establishment features a traditional layout with a long single room and bar, creating a lively atmosphere that attracts both locals and visitors.

Over the years, The Rising Sun has evolved while still maintaining its village charm. It now offers modern amenities, including a spacious beer garden with covered areas and heaters for year-round enjoyment. The pub provides various facilities such as a car park, a dartboard, and a fireplace, and it is also dog-friendly, welcoming four-legged companions.

Guests can enjoy regular entertainment, including live music on Friday nights, which makes The Rising Sun a vibrant social hub in this picturesque Derbyshire village, proudly standing opposite its historic neighbour, The Green Man.

Been in a couple times and there’s not a bad word to be said about the place, friendly staff, warm feeling about the place. The perfect pub to go and wind down would 100% recommend. Shame the landlord is the size of my big toe but he’s got a heart of gold and full of banter

Amazing time had at Rising Sun. Good atmosphere and drinks. Band were playing who were brilliant. Really warm welcome from the landlord who couldn’t do enough for us. Wish we lived in the village, would be in here all the time. Can’t wait to return. Thanks again to the landlord for making our experience great

Steer clear unless you enjoy being treated poorly. The landlord’s rudeness when this place is busy is quite something to behold – he clearly doesn’t care who he offends. It’s probably a result of not having enough staff, but that’s no excuse for his terrible attitude. When called out on it, he just lied. The live music was decent, but honestly, it’s not worth enduring the hostile environment created by the landlord. Find somewhere else that actually values its patrons like the pub next door.
