Stunning. We arrived to an empty carpark at 5am to watch the sunrise. There was a sea of mist surrounding us when we sat at the top and all the tree tops poked through it like cliffs. Lovely friendly cows. Big sturdy benches.

Great place for a walk. Plenty of trails round and through the clumps. We walked down to Day’s Lock then back to the clumps. Free car park but be aware there’s no toilets or cafe. A farm cafe is advertised near the lock but we didn’t venture there. Amazing views and we could see a water tower 18km away today!

Wittenham Clumps are a hidden gem that offers a captivating blend of natural beauty and historical significance. The two prominent hills, Castle Hill and Round Hill, provide panoramic views of the Oxfordshire countryside, offering a breathtaking backdrop for walks and hikes. The ancient hillfort on Castle Hill and the nearby Iron Age remains add an intriguing layer of history to the site. The abundance of wildflowers, woodland trails, and wildlife make it a haven for nature enthusiasts and photographers. The serene and peaceful atmosphere of Wittenham Clumps makes it an ideal escape from city life, inviting visitors to connect with nature and explore its rich heritage.

One of my favourite places. Beautiful views of the surrounding areas for the top. Take a walk though Wittenham Forest at the bottom. You may see a deer, if you’re lucky amongst the trees. A lovely place to meditate. Lots of Celtic and Roman history there. Read up before going.
