Nights at the Museum – Frights and Real Ales

If you like a good spooky scare, or just prefer to relax with a selection of real ales, the NWM has something for you this October!

The National Waterways Museum Ellesmere Port will be holding their popular Halloween ‘Fright Nights’ on October 29th, 30th and 31st. Tickets cost £5 for adults and £4 for children. The tickets are on sale now at the museum and advance booking is essential – last year the event sold out. ‘Fright Night At The Museum 2’ follows on from last years’ successful first event and will take families around a spooky story set in the old locks, docks and warehouses of the historic site.

Gaynor La Rocca, the museum’s Youth Activities Co-ordinator who has put together the events, said: “We were delighted with our event last year so we’ve been working on a sequel – the story is new and the format is a little different but the great atmosphere will be just the same.”

Each night of the performances will see four tours taking families around the museum, beginning at 6pm with the last tour at 8.15pm. Each tour takes just over an hour and finished up with the chance for children to trick or treat at the museum’s row of cottages. The tour is family friendly but some scenes may be a bit scary for the very young or very nervous.

The script for the performance has been written with renowned canal theatre company Mikron and will be performed by around 25 local young people and 30 community actors and museum volunteers.

Fans of real ale will also be welcomed to the National Waterways Museum in October when it hosts a three day beer festival.

The festival, organised in conjunction with Titanic Brewery, will run from Friday October 12 to Sunday October 14 and will showcase a range of real ales with canal and waterways connections from across the country.

Oliver Briscoe, Marketing Manager at the Museum, said: “Our first beer festival last year was a great event and we’re looking forwards to repeating it. We’re busy putting together a list of great ale from the canal network, using brewers from canalside locations and classic canal towns.”
