Initially established as a narrow gauge slate railway by an Act of Parliament in 1865, the Talyllyn Railway faced closure in 1951, but was ultimately saved for future generations by Rolt and a devoted team of volunteers. This railway went on to become the world’s first Heritage Railway. Railway Adventure features photographs of the railway and the people and trains that worked on it. This book is a delightful read for railway enthusiasts and those who appreciate the picturesque Welsh countryside, which is described in great detail.

“Today there are upwards of one hundred preserved railways and steam centres across the country, and in some small way all of them owe a debt to L.T.C. Rolt and his accomplices, whose indomitable pioneering spirit and willingness to accept the call of adventure left an extraordinary legacy for future generations.” –HRH Prince Charles, Prince of Wales

In his captivating and entertaining account, Tom Rolt recounts the story of a determined group of amateur railway enthusiasts who defied the odds to fulfill their dream of operating their own railway.

[700,724
{"0":"post-1359","1":"product","2":"type-product","3":"status-publish","4":"has-post-thumbnail","6":"product_cat-l-t-c-tom-rolt-charles-hadfield","7":"product_cat-railway-books","9":"first","10":"instock","11":"taxable","12":"shipping-taxable","13":"product-type-external
["GET
