The Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal winds through the picturesque Brecon National Park, with breathtaking views of lush green hills, dense forests, and untamed moors in a serene and rural setting. The canal towpath is an excellent option for both walkers and cyclists to explore the region. Although the canal is not part of the primary waterways network, there are numerous hire companies in the area that provide holidaymakers with the chance to sail along this captivating waterway.
The southern stretch of the canal, extending from Five Locks Cwmbran to Newport and the Crumlin Arm, is currently undergoing restoration. As part of this project, a new marina is planned for Crindau, Newport.
