Downloadable digital image of a gouache (watercolour) painting of a Neath Abbey Ironworks made locomotive of 1830. These locomotives were designed by Charles Jordan and manufactured throughout the 1830s for use on the many Monmouthshire Canal & other tramroads leading from the Heads of the Valleys Ironworks in Monmouthshire to the shipping tips and wharves at Newport. Some were transported up the Neath Canal, hauled up the Pont Walby tramroad incline at Glyn-Neath and transported via tramroad and canal for use in and around the world’s biggest ironworks at Merthyr Tydfil and on tramroads leading to the Glamorganshire Canal. The ironworks and its specialist engine manufactory were some four miles east of the Swansea Canal at Morriston. Original copyright artwork by Stephen Hughes. For personal use.
