The Series takes the reader to the Peak District, where the wild landscape contrasts with the centuries-old quarrying and mining activities. However, the Industrial Revolution of the 1870s causes conflict between the two.
Echoes Down the Line, the second book, follows a story of Fenian violence. The detonation of a train carrying royalty is prevented, and a conspiracy within the Dublin administration is uncovered. A long-held family secret is also brought to light. Wayland is courted by an old army acquaintance but sees through the subterfuge with Sam’s help.
The book ends with a problem for Sam and Lizzie, whose relationship is just beginning to take shape.
Book 3 solves the problem between Sam and Lizzie and concludes the narrative.
