Trent & Mersey canal pubs and inns

The canal was one of the main arteries of the Industrial Revolution, taking raw materials into the Black Country, Midlands and Birmingham, and carrying finished articles out to the North West cities and ports. The Trent and Mersey was also part of the main North South route. Canalside pubs provided stabling for the canal horses, sometimes renting fresh horses, and gave the boat people a place to relax for a few hours and socialise.
