Guide To Lincoln Castle

Lincoln Castle

Built in 1068 on the orders of William the Conqueror on his return from his first expedition to York. The castle grounds cover six acres inside the walls. There are two original towers and a 14th century addition the Cobb Hall. Built on separate mounds on the south side are the Observatory tower and the Old Keep. The latter is a ruined shell now but the former is in good order and the views from the top make the climb worthwhile. Cobb Hall was a lower tower, with battlements used as the prison and place of execution.

A good couple of hours looking around here today. £17 tickets that included access to the prison, medieval walled walk and a viewing of the Magna Carta. We felt it was a good price . The outside area was well maintained and looked lovely with autumn leaves. We had coffee and cake in the cafe which was nice enough and plenty of seating. The toilets nearby could have done with checking a bit more as the floor was soaking wet.

The lady who scanned out tickets to enter the prison and Magna Carta was really helpful and informative.

The different displays had plenty of information that really helped when walking around.

Very interesting place to visit. Lots of history.

Tour guide Ken Moore was interesting and amusing.

Slight disappointment is that a number of parts are closed off that you can not visit.

There is no mention of this on the website.

A little disappointing as the castle walls were the only part of the castle still standing and I was unable to get up as the lift was out of order. So we ended up paying for a castle but only seeing the Victorian prison. We were given a discount on the entry as I couldn’t get up the walls but I was expecting to see more of an actual castle.

What a fabulous place to visit. Totally dog friendly and plenty to see and do. Very good choices of places to drink and eat with great variety of gluten free menus. A bustling friendly safe atmosphere and worth spending a full weekend to visit all the interesting places. The cathedral is a must and we were so lucky the choir had rehearsals while we were there. So nice to be able to take your dog inside all the attractions being able to see things together and not having to wait outside whilst you take it in turn to have a look around. A 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ place to visit 🥰

Rather disappointing that one couldn’t go into the castle. Wonder if was only the day I went or if the castle isn’t open to the public. It’s amazing that those walls have lasted over 1000 years.
