Guide To Lancaster Castle
Lancaster CastleThe Norman keep was built on the site of a Roman fort. It was extended in the 13th and 14th centuries. There is a tower known as John o' Gaunts Chair. The Shire Hall displays shields, but most of the castle is used as a prison. Escorted tours can be arranged.

Free to walk round courtyard, the inside costs. Parking a bit short on site. Best park in centre and walk. The guided tour is available for a charge.

Beautiful place. It has a cafe and a small souvenir shop. There’s also a small handmade chocolate shop with delicious varieties. It’s free to enter, but you have to pay for a tour of the inside—completely worth it. I got the best tour guide with so much knowledge and enthusiasm.

Absolutely brilliant. We booked the guided tour. Christopher, the tour guide was amazing, an absolute fountain of knowledge. The guided tour costs £9 but worth every penny. Amazing history, it’s still a working crown court, so you’re not allowed to take photos inside. We are definitely going to go back for another visit.

Nice castle, no entrance fee. You can walk around inside the court yard and look at it.
Can highly recommend a visit.
