Was on board “Holly day”. She wasn’t that long compared to the other boats. But all these boats have unique way of control. The canal locks are very unique experience and a very interesting and practical legacy technology.

Very fun experience, it might be challenging first try, but once you passed that everything is very intuitive. People going pass you will always smile and wave with passion.

We hired the Oak Apple narrowboat for 2 weeks in May 2024. The boat is fitted to a really high standard with two toilets and two double beds. There is a third pull out bed in the galley. All were exceptionally comfortable and the bedding provided was clean and of a really good quality. Extra blankets were provided but never needed even on cooler nights.

As first time hirers on canal cruising the the 57′ Oak Apple was a good choice for length. Enough space for everyone to have their own inside and a good length for the locks and many tight turns required through angled narrow bridges.

What I liked about the whole process is that Linda and Mark were very responsive to emails prior to the hire period and also phone text messages when on hire. So you always felt there was backup help and support if it was ever needed.

We had lots of fun and funny moments over our two weeks completing the 4 counties ring plus a side excursion into the Caldon canal. Fellow boaters were almost without exception a pleasant crowd to be around on and beside the water. We even had canal volunteers accompany us for miles on their paddle greasing outing. The volunteers are all super friendly and very knowledgeable people about the canal and local area.

Cheshire Cat narrowboat hire are a great choice for anyone considering cruising the Llangollen canal, 4 counties or Cheshire rings.

We had a fantastic day out, taking the day boat with all the family. Excellent handover, as first time users! Great communication and extremely friendly. Will definitely be back, and hoping to book a short break! 10/10 would recommend! Thank you!

We recently took part in a 2 day overnight life afloat training course with Linda on narrowboat Witch Hazel. We had a fantastic experience and Linda’s knowledge was great and she was so helpful & patient especially as it was our first time on a narrowboat. We would really encourage anyone who is thinking of buying a boat to take this course as you would get so much out of the experience.
