Abergavenney Castle

Rating: 4.4 /5

Motte and bailey built to dominate the area and be a centre for administration of the territory. They were transformed into English style manors. In 1171 it was the scene of the massacre of several Welsh leaders who were murdered by William de Braose. He had invited them to dine at the castle. Only parts of the walls towers and a gateway survive, these can be visited daily.
