Canal boat covers and canopy suppliers & services
We list over 40 manufacturers and repairers of narrowboat and canal boat covers & canopies.
Canvas and plastic based covers and canopies are used to cover and protect the front and rear deck areas of canal boats when the boat is moored up.
Most are designed to be removed when the boat is in use. Covers over the rear deck can be designed to also shelter the steerer and crew while cruising during bad weather.
- A cratch is the triangular board or panel which sits at the front of the open hold or deck area on narrowboats and some barges. On traditional narrowboats it supported the covers over the hold.
- Many modern narrowboats keep the weather off the front deck with a cover from the cratch to the cabin. Cratch covers are removable and may include transparent or translucent sections for vision and to allow light through and have flaps to allow ventilation.
- Some narrow boats and barges also have a rear canopy over the rear deck and steering position giving weather protection with sufficient headroom for the steerer in bad weather. The cover may be removed for normal cruising in fine weather.
