Waterways News, what's happening on UK Canals and Rivers.

The first private boats for 17 years came out of the lift on Wednesday 27 March to the applause of hundreds of onlookers. Boats gathered below the Lift included British Waterways fine restored pair Lindsay and Keppel and the Sovereign Cruisers 'Big Dutch Barge' trip boat with a party of the Friends of the Anderton Lift, the organisation sadly now disbanded, its purpose achieved.

The next day a number of boats were travelling down the Weaver to the Manchester Ship Canal and on to the National Waterways Museum at Ellesmere Port to attend the Easter Gathering of Boats, taking the advantage of the short cut the Lift now provides. Lindsay and Keppel and the nicely restored ex Kelloggs Parfield belonging to Mike Carter were spotted in Saltersford lock.

First 4 images taken by Ian Goodier as Lindsay and Keppel descend the lift.
