You don't need to have a week spare and lots of sunshine to enjoy our canals. There are a large number of canalside attractions for all the family to enjoy for a day or just a few hours, many of which are open all year round.

There's a wide range of canalside attractions, visitor centres and waterways museums which make a great family day out. You can also have a great canal holiday by staying in a floating hotel or in a canalside cottage.

On other pages we list self drive day hire canal boats which are a very popular way to have a day out with friends, and to get a taste of canals and canal boat hire. We've also a full page about skippered trip boats which offer short scheduled cruises usually lasting an hour or two that you can turn up and join, or chartered cruises that can be booked in advance for a whole party. They often provide onboard food & refreshments. Restaurant boats usually combine a canal cruise with relaxing dining and drinks.
